When the story of this class is written, it opens with DeMonte Capehart at slot 243, a reach of 22 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Xavier Worthy in No. 50 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Calen Bullock in pick 54 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zak Zinter at pick No. 97 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They jumped the gun on Theo Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylan Ford in slot 172 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
