You can draft well and still miss the point. The Raiders did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Harris steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Armand Membou in the 6th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jaxson Dart in slot 37, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They robbed the room for Tre Harris here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Cam Skattebo higher than Round 4, Pick 6, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Cody Simon, who had no business lasting to pick No. 143. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on CJ West in the 180th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in the 213th overall pick with a little surplus value in R.J. Mickens. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Craig Woodson at pick No. 215, value and slot in agreement. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Ricky White III at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
