The rest of the league will want that one back. Johnny Dixon tumbling to the Eagles in pick 222 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Hopper pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in pick 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick No. 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Xavier Worthy at No. 82 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Cole Bishop enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 3, Pick 35. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nice patience on Dallin Holker, who had no business lasting to slot 161. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in the 171st overall pick: Tykee Smith for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Ty'Ron Hopper at the 172nd pick that the board grades a round light. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Joe Milton III at the 210th overall pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Johnny Dixon at pick No. 222 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
