Thirty-one other rooms let Cornelius Johnson slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at the 225th overall pick. Highway robbery. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They are betting Gargiulo proves the room right and everyone else wrong. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
So much rides on T.J. Tampa that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T.J. Tampa. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Junior Colson at Round 2, Pick 21 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kamren Kinchens at slot 62 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jaden Hicks in pick 93 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in the 113th pick, with Jalen McMillan worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dylan Laube in pick No. 161 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Khristian Boyd in No. 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Tip Reiman enough to skip the value, taking him in the 172nd overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at pick 194, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Curtis Jacobs, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Good price on Caedan Wallace in the 214th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay M.J. Devonshire at No. 218 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kendall Milton at pick No. 220 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Cornelius Johnson at Round 7, Pick 5 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Brevyn Spann-Ford at slot 246 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Nick Gargiulo at the 253rd pick, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
