Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Joshua Farmer, the No. 123 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a C and check back in two years.
The Lachey pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Hit on Jalon Walker and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get the heartbeat of the defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Steal is underselling it; Emeka Egbuka at pick 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trey Amos at the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ozzy Trapilo in the 96th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Lathan Ransom all the way to pick No. 129, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Joshua Farmer at Round 5, Pick 23 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Cody Simon in No. 166, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A wild overpay on Luke Lachey in slot 169, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
