Somebody took the Eagles to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. Jacobs has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The King steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Javon Bullard slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Worthy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at No. 81, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A surprising call. With edge rusher and quarterback still to address, they spent slot 120 on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
A clean, defensible pick in the 125th pick with a little surplus value in Blake Fisher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Kalen King at slot 161 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Sione Vaki in pick 171. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tanor Bortolini at pick No. 172 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Curtis Jacobs at No. 179 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Fabien Lovett in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy little value on Jared Wiley in the 210th pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Caedan Wallace is a better player than the 225th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
