The Eagles lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A D+ that will need time and luck to look better.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Harris pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Landing Simpson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They read the board right and Xavier Worthy was the payoff at the 50th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 54 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Tykee Smith in the 97th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Malik Washington in Round 4, Pick 6, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Jordan Travis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land James Williams in the 139th pick, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Wright at pick No. 160, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Chau Smith-Wade in the 170th overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let McCallan Castles come to them and pounced at slot 171. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaylin Simpson in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kimani Vidal in No. 204 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had cheaper options than Marcus Harris at Round 7, Pick 20, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
