The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It washes out to a C-, no better and no worse.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. The James value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 50 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid up for Zach Frazier at Round 2, Pick 22 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Khyree Jackson a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on DJ James, who had no business lasting to the 127th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaheim Bell in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Joe Milton III at pick No. 160 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in pick 170: Jaylen Wright for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Kitan Oladapo in pick 171, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Baker at Round 6, Pick 3 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Jones at the 204th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
