It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jimmy Horn Jr. in slot 225, a good 38 spots before the room expected him. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
So much rides on Shedeur Sanders that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. The Jackson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Shedeur Sanders at slot 3, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
In the 11th overall pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Shavon Revel Jr. a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy bit of business in No. 71, where Donovan Jackson graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jordan James at pick 73 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ajani Cornelius in the 109th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Shemar Turner is a better player than No. 187 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jason Henderson in the 212th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They read the board right and Julian Fleming was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 39. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jimmy Horn Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
