After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
On value alone, Lovett makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Mahogany has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get the arm they will build around, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Xavier Legette at the 44th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Christian Mahogany at pick 77 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Renardo Green here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylin Simpson a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Javon Foster was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Javontae Jean-Baptiste in No. 208, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Fabien Lovett at the 223rd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ryan Flournoy in pick No. 229, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
