There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Raiders started one anyway for Will Howard, 46 picks ahead of schedule.
Dennis-Sutton falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 1 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jack Sawyer at pick No. 34 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Tory Horton in Round 3, Pick 5 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Gunnar Helm was still sitting there in the 103rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It fills a real need, too.
Billy Bowman Jr. in No. 138 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick 178 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Howard well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Miles Frazier in Round 7, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on DJ Campbell at the 217th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
