Whoever sat across the table from the Vikings should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Getting Lovett where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Chris Braswell and all.
Pick-by-Pick
R2.6
· Pick 38
· Chris Braswell
· LB-EDGE
· rank 36
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at slot 38 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.10
· Pick 42
· J.J. McCarthy
· QB
· rank 43
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.6
· Pick 106
· Michael Hall Jr.
· DT
· rank 84
Steal is underselling it; Michael Hall Jr. at the 106th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.8
· Pick 108
· TreVeyon Henderson
· RB
· rank 89
TreVeyon Henderson in pick 108 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.28
· Pick 128
· Kris Abrams-Draine
· CB
· rank 120
Kris Abrams-Draine is a better player than the 128th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.12
· Pick 148
· Mike Sainristil
· CB
· rank 136
Mike Sainristil in No. 148 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R5.23
· Pick 159
· Jaylan Ford
· LB
· rank 151
They read the board right and Jaylan Ford was the payoff at pick 159. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.27
· Pick 163
· Ben Sinnott
· TE
· rank 158
A clean, defensible pick in No. 163 with a little surplus value in Ben Sinnott. It fills a real need, too.
R6.4
· Pick 179
· Josh Proctor
· S
· rank 177
They paid sticker price for Josh Proctor in pick No. 179, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.10
· Pick 230
· Dominic Lovett
· WR
· rank 206
Circle this one: Dominic Lovett at the 230th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.16
· Pick 236
· Nathaniel Watson
· LB
· rank 232
Nathaniel Watson at Round 7, Pick 16 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
