The trade table was where it all came apart. The Texans shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
The Colson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. However the rest shakes out, Johnson at that price is a win they earned. The Texans paired the rookies with proven help, Jalen Ramsey leading the way.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.29
· Pick 29
· JC Latham
· OT
· rank 15
In slot 29 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, and a steal at that.
R1.30
· Pick 30
· Tyler Nubin
· S
· rank 20
In the 30th pick they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
R2.1
· Pick 33
· Keon Coleman
· WR
· rank 39
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at the 33rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.17
· Pick 49
· Cooper Beebe
· OG
· rank 55
Cooper Beebe at pick 49 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R2.30
· Pick 62
· Leonard Taylor III
· DL
· rank 68
Leonard Taylor III at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.29
· Pick 92
· Adisa Isaac
· DE-EDGE
· rank 97
They took Adisa Isaac at par in No. 92, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.30
· Pick 93
· Junior Colson
· LB
· rank 120
Junior Colson in Round 3, Pick 30 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.17
· Pick 117
· Khyree Jackson
· CB
· rank 128
They went early on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 117, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.26
· Pick 126
· Ray Davis
· RB
· rank 135
They jumped the gun on Ray Davis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.27
· Pick 127
· Cade Stover
· TE
· rank 136
Cade Stover in the 127th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.18
· Pick 154
· T.J. Sanders
· DT
· rank 180
T.J. Sanders at the 154th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.30
· Pick 166
· Payton Wilson
· LB
· rank 144
They robbed the room for Payton Wilson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.14
· Pick 234
· Cornelius Johnson
· WR
· rank 208
The board fumbled Cornelius Johnson all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.18
· Pick 238
· Sam Hartman
· QB
· rank 260
Sam Hartman at slot 238 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
