There is reaching, and then there is Jared Wiley at the Round 6 slot. The Texans jumped the board by 113 and dared it to prove them wrong. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The Tashaun Gipson Sr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 31 they get a home-run threat at receiver, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Junior Colson in the 63rd overall pick says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 90 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cam Hart in No. 123 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at the 126th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Josh Proctor in slot 163; the board had better options right there. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They talked themselves into Jawhar Jordan at the 176th overall pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Jared Wiley at pick 177, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
