This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan Magee, the No. 193 name on the board, stolen at pick No. 230. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If Davis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Junior Colson was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at the 130th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nehemiah Pritchett at No. 148 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylin Simpson at the 155th pick. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Isaiah Davis in slot 160 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Cedric Johnson slid further than he should have, and pick 165 is lovely value for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Andru Phillips come to them and pounced at No. 179. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Omar Speights at pick No. 211 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jordan Magee at pick 230 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A reach on Myles Cole in the 237th pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
