The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 103 name on the board, sitting there at the 164th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
If Alexander pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Donovan Jackson at slot 63 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached into another round for Darius Alexander, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quinshon Judkins at No. 128 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Hayden Conner at the 160th pick is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a linebacker like Smael Mondon Jr. reach the 164th overall pick and blink. They did not. A minor itch, scratched.
Jordan Hancock at the Round 5 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
