Somewhere a general manager is explaining how LeQuint Allen got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at pick 214. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The Tee Higgins deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Ashton Jeanty in Round 1, Pick 6, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trey Amos in the 49th pick is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Mukuba at slot 68, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to No. 73. It fills a real need, too.
Jalen Milroe in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They let Darius Alexander come to them and pounced at pick 144. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in pick No. 182, with Jack Nelson worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
LeQuint Allen at the 214th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Kyle Williams still on the board at the 218th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Craig Woodson in pick 224 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
