The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: LeQuint Allen, the No. 139 name on the board, in Round 6, Pick 28. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Everything downstream of Cam Ward depends on Cam Ward, and the building knows it. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Cam Ward at the 6th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Aireontae Ersery higher than the Round 2 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Maxwell Hairston was still sitting there in No. 110, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cam Skattebo in the Round 5 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in the 182nd pick with a little surplus value in Dont'e Thornton Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in slot 198, where JJ Pegues graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Steal is underselling it; LeQuint Allen at pick No. 206 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Earnest Greene III reach the 218th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Cobee Bryant at pick 230 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
