The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named offensive lineman, a need the Vikings walked right past. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sinnott. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
A straight-up fair deal on J.J. McCarthy at the 42nd pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beau Brade at Round 4, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in No. 130, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Ben Sinnott higher than pick 148, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Justin Rogers in the Round 5 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Grayson Murphy at the 165th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Steele Chambers is a better player than pick No. 230 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
