The rest of the league will want that one back. Ja'Lynn Polk tumbling to the Raiders in Round 5, Pick 12 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
So much rides on J.J. McCarthy that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Reaching for McCarthy left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a passer to set the clock by, even if it was a touch early.
Circle this one: Cooper DeJean at the 44th pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Matt Goncalves went about where he belonged in pick No. 112. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ja'Lynn Polk in the 148th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Tommy Eichenberg in the 161st pick, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in Round 6, Pick 33, with Jase McClellan worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caedan Wallace in No. 223. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
JD Bertrand at slot 229 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
