The Jimmy Horn Jr. pick is the one that will follow the Raiders into the fall. They took him 128 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Omarion Hampton at pick No. 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Benjamin Morrison at pick 68 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Darien Porter at the 73rd overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Will Howard at slot 107 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Savion Williams in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Raheim Sanders in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Robert Spears-Jennings at pick No. 214 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Hancock at slot 218 is the proof. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jimmy Horn Jr. at the 224th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
