Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings drew a line under the quarterback search with McCarthy: B.

The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. No fireworks, but a solid B.

They banked enough surplus on Johnson to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every board in the league had Williams lower, and that gap is the story.

For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
In slot 11 they get a building block for the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
R1.23 · Pick 23 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 23
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 120
Tyler Davis at the Round 4 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
They jumped the gun on Tommy Eichenberg, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 171
They liked Javion Cohen enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 157. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 160
Tykee Smith at No. 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
Value with a capital V on Dwight McGlothern in the 177th pick, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 187
Cornelius Johnson in the 230th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Miyan Williams · RB · rank 256
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Miyan Williams. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
