The Texans put a flag in the ground for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, 23 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Getting Odunze where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Jonah Elliss in pick No. 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Wilson is a better player than slot 88 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Cedric Gray went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kris Abrams-Draine slid further than he should have, and No. 127 is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor itch, scratched.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at Round 5, Pick 22 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Phil Jurkovec in Round 7, Pick 19, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Fentrell Cypress II at the 242nd overall pick. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
