The war room fell hard for De'Corian Clark, and it showed at slot 163: 32 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. Landing Turner that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Payton Wilson at No. 58 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Leonard Taylor III in the 90th pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Malik Mustapha in the 123rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Will Shipley in pick 126 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, De'Corian Clark in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Thomas in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Carson Steele at pick 247, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
