Everything else got attention, and wide receiver got none. That is a strange way for the Texans to leave a draft. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If Wilson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That is an edge rusher worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in pick No. 23: Dallas Turner for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Payton Wilson at Round 2, Pick 26 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They went early on Dominick Puni in the 90th pick, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Khyree Jackson in No. 123, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They jumped the gun on Shemar Turner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick 163 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Blake Watson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Jake Briningstool enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 247. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
