The tape said wait; the Texans did not. De'Corian Clark went at pick No. 163, a good 32 picks before the board was ready. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Getting Jurkovec where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Payton Wilson in pick No. 58 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Leonard Taylor III in the 90th overall pick, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had cheaper options than Malik Mustapha at Round 4, Pick 23, and it noticed. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Will Shipley in the 126th pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on De'Corian Clark at pick 163, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Xavier Thomas in pick No. 239 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let a quarterback like Phil Jurkovec reach No. 247 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
