The Texans clearly saw something nobody else did in Zion Tupuola-Fetui, taking him 39 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: running back settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get an island corner. More want than need.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Leonard Taylor III at pick 90, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They liked Malik Mustapha enough to skip the value, taking him in the 123rd pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 126th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
De'Corian Clark in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Carson Steele at pick 239 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 7, Pick 27 with a little surplus value in Aaron Frost. The roster fit checks out.
