When the story of this class is written, it opens with De'Corian Clark at the Round 5 slot, a reach of 29 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a wrecking ball inside, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in No. 58, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Corley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Kris Abrams-Draine, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Shemar Turner in slot 126 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into De'Corian Clark at Round 5, Pick 27, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Blake Watson in pick 239. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in the 247th pick with a little surplus value in Ja'Had Carter. A minor itch, scratched.
