There is conviction, and then there is this. The Texans took Eyabi Okie-Anoma a full 103 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That Fisher pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Payton Wilson at slot 58 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Marist Liufau at the 90th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Blake Fisher in the 123rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a cornerback like Khyree Jackson reach Round 4, Pick 26 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wiley. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 19 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
