The Texans spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Zion Nelson, the No. 210 name on the board, in No. 242.
They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a disruptor off the edge, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
A want over a need in slot 53: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Malachi Corley in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They did well to land Beau Brade in No. 121, just ahead of his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
They paid sticker price for Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 4, Pick 27, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in the 158th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Blake Watson in the 239th pick, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zion Nelson in pick No. 242 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
