There is reaching, and then there is Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the Round 7 slot. The Texans jumped the board by 103 and dared it to prove them wrong. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
However the rest shakes out, Watson at that price is a win they earned. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Edgerrin Cooper at the 58th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Marist Liufau in pick No. 90 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Malik Mustapha in the 123rd pick, more than the board wanted. A minor itch, scratched.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for De'Corian Clark. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jared Wiley at slot 163 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
Blake Watson in pick 239 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the 247th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
