Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent the Round 5 slot on Sam Hartman, a name most had 22 spots down the list. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on T'Vondre Sweat in pick 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Malachi Corley went about where he belonged in the 88th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Max Melton in the 121st overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaden Hicks at No. 127, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached a country mile for Sam Hartman at pick No. 158, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good price on Blake Watson in the 239th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Aaron Frost at pick No. 242 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
