The Texans put a flag in the ground for Maason Smith, 32 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The Texans indulged a want in Smith while a need in interior defensive lineman and quarterback stayed open. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a disruptor off the edge, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman and quarterback to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Corley at pick No. 88, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Donovan Jackson in No. 121, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Jaden Hicks at par in slot 127, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
