For all the boxes ticked, the Texans skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was.
The Legette steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on Chop Robinson in slot 27, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in No. 53, where Xavier Legette graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Fair-plus on Beau Brade, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in pick No. 127, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Ben Sinnott in the 158th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 19 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Aaron Frost at par in pick 242, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
