The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to Bo Nix, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The cost of the Bothroyd reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On value alone, Colson makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get their guy under center for the next decade, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Circle this one: Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 42nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Taking Junior Colson in Round 4, Pick 8 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board had cheaper options than Drake Nugent at No. 130, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Austin Booker at pick 148 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Isaiah Davis at slot 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cedric Johnson at the Round 5 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Roger Rosengarten come to them and pounced at the 179th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Rondell Bothroyd well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
