The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cam Skattebo fell into the 180th pick.
The cost of the Ritzie reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Walter Nolen still on the board at slot 37. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Trey Amos in No. 68. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaiah Bond in the 108th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Jackson Slater at par in pick 143, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jahvaree Ritzie at pick No. 213 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Chase Lundt was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 39, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Upton Stout in Round 7, Pick 6, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
