The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Raiders watched Ollie Gordon II slide 49 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
If Jackson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Luther Burden III in slot 37 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Tate Ratledge in the 68th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Joshua Farmer a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Aeneas Peebles went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Jay Higgins at pick 180 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at the Round 6 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Mac McWilliams at Round 6, Pick 39 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jonas Sanker at No. 222 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
