The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They are betting Nugent proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Adding Parry Nickerson by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 11 they get a long-term answer under center. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 42, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Cedric Gray at the 108th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
Trevor Keegan at the 157th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Drake Nugent in Round 5, Pick 31 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the Round 6 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylen Harrell this early at No. 185. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Gabe Hall at slot 188 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the Round 6 slot, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Eyabi Okie-Anoma in the 230th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
