Call it larceny. Jarvis Brownlee Jr. sat on the board until the 145th overall pick, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Adding Connor McGovern by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The Watts reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in No. 42, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
McKinnley Jackson slipping to the 99th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Malachi Corley at Round 4, Pick 9 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Mason McCormick here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a cornerback like Jarvis Brownlee Jr. reach the 145th pick and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Sione Vaki in pick 166 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Eric Watts in Round 6, Pick 4; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had cheaper options than Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 227, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
