The rest of the league will want that one back. Robert Spears-Jennings tumbling to the Raiders in the 224th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Put together, it is a D-.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Porter lower, and that gap is the story.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Mason Graham in slot 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
In the 12th overall pick they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Emeka Egbuka slid further than he should have, and No. 37 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Darien Porter at pick 68, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in pick No. 73: Elic Ayomanor for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Dylan Sampson slipping to Round 3, Pick 12 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A clean, defensible pick in the 107th pick with a little surplus value in Kevin Winston Jr.. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Will Howard in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Nice patience on Bhayshul Tuten, who had no business lasting to the 182nd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at pick 214 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 218th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Robert Spears-Jennings in No. 224 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
