It is the swing that defines the weekend: Xavier Truss in No. 235, a good 27 spots before the room expected him.
The Nubin pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots still on the board. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. That Stover pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots to take Tyler Nubin, a defensive back that was not the priority.
Javon Foster in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Jaylin Simpson at par in Round 3, Pick 14, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Audric Estime at slot 114 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Cade Stover in pick 151, a genuine coup. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
By-the-book stuff, Jalon Daniels at pick No. 192 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Xavier Truss at slot 235 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
