Call it larceny. Omar Speights sat on the board until pick 230, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a disruptive interior force. A real need, handled.
Bo Nix at slot 42 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Roman Wilson in Round 4, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Kris Abrams-Draine, who had no business lasting to the 130th pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Braelon Allen at the 160th overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Justin Rogers in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had Chau Smith-Wade higher than pick 169, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Andru Phillips slipping to No. 179 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Omar Speights at the 230th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
