Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Vikings never addressed quarterback, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Marks has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th pick they get a centerfielder for the defense at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Riley Mahlman at Round 5, Pick 9 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
DeMonte Capehart in No. 145 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jo'Quavious Marks. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Tony Grimes in the 195th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They went early on Theo Wease Jr. in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
