Thirty-one other rooms let Malachi Moore slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the 215th overall pick. Highway robbery. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The Thornton Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It is not that Knight Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Raiders had louder needs to answer first.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jihaad Campbell. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Demetrius Knight Jr. in Round 3, Pick 3 leaves edge rusher, cornerback and other spots for later.
A slide stopped in the 68th pick, with Alfred Collins worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Donovan Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in No. 76 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cam Skattebo is a better player than pick 108 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Dont'e Thornton Jr. this early at the Round 5 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Kurtis Rourke at Round 6, Pick 4 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jay Higgins at the 213th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They barely believed it either: Malachi Moore still on the board at pick No. 215. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a linebacker like Jack Kiser reach No. 222 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Carson Vinson in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Jordan Hancock was still sitting there in pick 231, and they pounced on premier safety value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
