They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Smith-Wade at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting McCaffrey proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get a passer to set the clock by, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value.
Christian Mahogany slid further than he should have, and the 108th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
