Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Jones at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The McCaffrey reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
Leonard Taylor III at the 108th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Luke McCaffrey well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Trevor Keegan at pick 157. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach Round 5, Pick 31 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dillon Johnson at No. 177 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board fumbled Steele Chambers all the way to slot 230, and they scooped it up. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Sheridan Jones slid further than he should have, and pick No. 232 is lovely value for the cornerback. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
