Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Wyatt Milum got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at No. 222. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Cam Ward in pick No. 37 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Ashton Jeanty still on the board at the 68th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 108th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Armand Membou here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jahdae Barron at the Round 5 slot for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Walter Nolen at No. 180 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a wide receiver like Tre Harris reach slot 213 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Alfred Collins at slot 215 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Somehow Wyatt Milum was still sitting there in the 222nd overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
