The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Cam Ward, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Getting Dotson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton in the 37th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Tre Harris at the 68th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Charles Grant at the Round 4 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Cody Simon at pick 143 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 4 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Jordan Hancock in pick No. 213, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 215 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: KeAndre Lambert-Smith at pick 222 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
