The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Every board in the league had Thomas lower, and that gap is the story. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 20, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Zak Zinter in pick No. 96 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mohamed Kamara. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Hart in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 148; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They took Layden Robinson at par in slot 160, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 165th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Michael Barrett went about where he belonged in the 179th overall pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A reach on Xavier Thomas in pick No. 230; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
