The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The Phillips steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jayden Daniels in pick 11. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 42 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Taking D.J. James in the 108th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kris Abrams-Draine in the 148th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board fumbled Cedric Gray all the way to Round 5, Pick 24, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Kamal Hadden was still sitting there in No. 165, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
You do not let a linebacker like Edefuan Ulofoshio reach slot 179 and blink. They did not. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Andru Phillips in the 230th pick, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
